35 ) - not really a bussines woman

My story is a little bit different. I use to work as a web design, web programer, system administrator, network administrator and so on. And i have work like that for something like 3 years. But i have discover that dosen't matter how much i know, dosen't matter if i'm better, i'm still a women. And working for a boss, dosen't matter who was the guy is quite impossible because in the end i still hated my job.
After i have change somehting like 12 work places i have realized that this is a circle and i have to stop that.
And i have decide to start a bussines. In my case i have meet two wonderfull guys how have supported me all the time, and help me, and done alot of things for me.
I have decide also to put my trust into this and quit my job and move over in a team with both of them.

34 ) - ColdFusion web developer

I've been a ColdFusion web developer for the last 7+ years. During that time, while working for other people, I would occasionally do side work at home for clients who would contact me for help. Then, a year ago, when the job market dried up, I got laid off and realized there were no more Coldfusion jobs in my area. So, I started to pick up more clients, and then began dabbling in creating my own websites. I now do both. At this point, all of this work still only barely pays the bills (and sometimes doesn't), but it pays a lot more than any local retail job would. (Besides, no retail company wants to hire me as I am over-qualified. Sigh.) So, I'm plugging along, and mostly enjoying it. It is definitely wonderful to work my own hours - and in my pj's if I want.

33 ) - Internet addiction

For me, I had no intentions of ever being a professional business woman. In fact, I have trouble even thinking of myself that way even now (although not as much as I used to).

I just seem to fall into things.

I got addicted to the Internet, and that addiction led to learning useful skills which allowed me to become a expert in my field (search engine marketing). But I'm definitely not your traditional business woman. In my heart, I'm simply a mom at home who plays on the computer all day and somehow manages to get paid for it.

I remember your Labor of Love site from ages ago ('97 or '98 maybe?) as I also started out with a parenting site. I always loved the name "Labor of Love"! I thought it was such a great name for the site.

32 ) - It's all about family

I was working 60-70 hours for other companies most of my life- travelling, never home. Making lots of money for them but not reaping the benefits myself! My oldest learned to walk and said his first words while I was away. :(

When the web software company I worked for went under while I was out on maternity leave (coincidence...I think not! ;) ) I decided to stay home as long as I could.

One project led to another and 2 years later, I'm still home and my husband has joined me. It's really great.

The older 2 kids STAYED sick when they were in daycare- my youngest has hardly been sick at all. That's been worth it, on top of all the other benefits of being here!

I will say, I miss interacting with other professionals, which is why Orkut and web forums are such a draw for me. I really get inspiration from bouncing things off others, so it helps to have online communities to draw that from.

31 ) - What is your story? What type of business are you in?

Well it all started about 7 years ago when I was in England and pregnant. I wasn't able to get a job at the time so I needed something to do. I started out creating a small Geocities website devoted to Pregnancy and parenting issues. From that meager start, we have grown into several info sites and 4 main ecommerce websites which, we hope, this year will have over $400 K in sales.


What drives you?

In all honesty, my desire to be able to work at home so I can be closer to my three children. That and our desire to finally be able to buy a home instead of renting one. The perk of working for no one but yourself is a major plus as well!

What would you like to gain from networking with other Professional Business Women?

When you are in the midst of your own business, you can, at times, not see things as clearly as other people. It nice to know that there are others out there who are willing to lend their opinion when needed.
