95 ) - medical bills

I've worked hard the past twenty years to raise my daughter by myself and now I could use some help with my medical bills. I had major surgery last year and my insurance coverage isn't as good as I thought it was. I owe about 3500.00 in bills. I work very hard to try and make ends meet, but sometimes I just can't pay any bills with my paycheck. If anyone knows somewhere I could get a loan, I would really appreciate hearing from you. I've applied for many loans and have been turned down because of my credit. Thank you for any help or suggestions you may have.

94 ) - Help with Education

Good Morning,

I got a request and sincerely hope you can help me. I am a 45 years old single mother living on Cortes Island, British Columbia. I raised my 2 kids on a tight budget as work on The Island is mostly seasonal. Now, they are both young adults and gone. I have been wanting to go back to school to become an Accountant, my body cannot do so much physical work anymore. For the last couple of years I have been looking at getting a laptop with internet access to do my schooling at home. My lifestyle is quite primitive,but it suit me and my 5 rescue dogs. We live without power or running water and no phone. I cannot live in town with them and my health problems (Social Agoraphobia). We do have a little college campus on the island that is open 6 hours a week. It is great for email and research for info but again, not much use for me.

I am not too sure exactly how to say that as I am not a person which usually ask for help but there it is. Would your organization consider sponsoring me with the use of a laptop that can connect to the internet without the use of a phone. My income is of about 400.00 Canadian a month and with winter coming will go down, but I can manage to pay for my own courses one at the time. I would also like to offer something in return, being time to do thing for the organization via computer.

I do feel embarrassed to ask but now that my family is raised, I want to have a bit of a life and would love to work from my home and be able to help more rescue dogs.

Anyway, I do not want take any more of your time and hope I am not out of place with my request.

93 ) - Desperate Mom

I am a 42 year old divorced female with a beautiful 15 year old daughter. I was married for 20 years and worked hard to put my husband through college while trying to further my career in accounting. We started out with nothing but with hard work and perserverance we finally achieved the American Dream, our own home.

My story begins shortly before my daughter was born (27 at the time). I started feeling tired, depressed and new something wasn't right. Years went by while Dr's told me they couldn't find anything wrong with me in the meantime I was getting worse. I was starting to believe it was just me. However, I made one last attempt to find out what was wrong with me. I made an appointment as Mass General and it took only two days for them to discover I have a condition called Graves Disease. It can normally be controlled with radiation or surgury to the thyroid. I had the radiation. I hoped that would be be end of my problems but I was wrong it was just starting to get worse. Graves Disease when left untreated can cause Bi-Polar disorder. I did not know this at the time. Apparently neither did my Dr's (I was sent back to my primary care Dr. after the radiation due to insurance policy). He did not know how to treat me and sent me to a therapist. He started treating me for depression with a wide variety of SSRI's ( which is now known to cause people to become suicidal). That is exactly what happened to me. I kept telling the Dr. these different drugs weren't working. I make a very long story short, I thought I was loosing my mind. I was having thoughts of suicide. I knew something was very wrong. I am not that type of person. Suicide is not a thought that has ever occured to me. I admitted myself into the hospital because I did not want my 12 year old daughter to see me that way. I was willing to do anything to get better, including ECT (Electric Shock Therapy) many times. The Dr's told me that it would help me. It helped me alright. It helped me lose my emotions. I ended up packing a suitcase to go for a visit at my parents in Arkansas. This is where I am today. I filed for divorce, left my daughter with her father because I felt unfit to take care of her. I know how much he loves her and I couldn't take her away from everything she knew and was secure with. My ex-husband is a good man but just never understood what I went through and I couldn't explain it to him. There were no answers at the time.

My daughter and I talk on the phone daily (sometimes 3 or more times) I don't think I have missed more than four or five days of calling her in three years. I miss her more than anything. I Love her so much. I know people don't understand why I did what I did. But I know my daughter is better off with her father. She knows how much we both love her and she's an honor student in school. I see her every other Holiday and in the summer when I can afford the plane ticket but I am on disability and that is not always possible.

My one wish would to be able to be near my daughter again. New Hampshires cost of living is more than I can afford on 750.00/month. I don't want anything large something with just enough room for when my daughter is there. My one wish is to have a home again where I can go watch my daughter run in her cross country meets or softball games or take her to the beach or skiing. I know this is asking alot but I do believe there are good people willing to help others.
