BENEFICIAL PROPERTIES: Has been known to help one deal with stress, increases mental and physical capabilities, strengthens veins and capillaries. It has been effective for some in reducing leg veins and swelling. One of the "brain food" herbs gotu kola is commonly found in "smart drinks" found in the Western parts of the world. Gotu kola has been used to promote calmness, clarity and to aid in resolving depression. It is adaptogen, alterative, antiseptic, antispasmodic, peripheral vasodilator, nervine and relaxant. Three constitutents have been shown to inhibit collagen production in conjuction with scar tissue making it helpful in preventing scaring. DESCRIPTION: A slender creeping tender perennial up to 3 feet in height. Stems are long, flattened and twisted with small grey green rounded leaves. Can be found growing in marshy high areas of India, Pakistan, Madagascar and South Africa.

WARNINGS: In large amounts or with long-term use, gotu kola can cause headaches, vertigo and photosensitivity. Topical application may cause rash or photosensitization. Do not use if you are pregnant, nursing, using tranquilizers or sedatives, it may have a narcotic effect.
