Trekking bars
These trekking bars are a new handlebar for Australia.
They have never been available here before.
Trekking bars are imported especially for Abbotsford Cycles.
The view you see in the image above is how they look to you when riding.
Trekking bars are mounted in the stem in the centre, curve forward and then around and back in toward the stem again with the brake and gear levers fitted to the straight section closest to the rider.
Trekking bars allow you to vary your hand, arm, neck and shoulder position for comfort on long rides. The nearest position will sit you more upright than a conventional MTB or hybrid bar and the far position will lean you further forward. You can also drop your forearms down onto the closer section whilst you grip the further position. This will give you the low back position of a down-turned bar with the aerodynamic advantage that offers. Because the ends of the bar are a long way (measured along the curve of the bar) from the mounting point there is a small amount of flex when gripping the closest position. This can provide a small but definite amount of extra comfort on a bike without a suspension fork. Any MTB gear and brake lever combination will fit.
Trekking bars require handlebar tape in addition to, or instead of, the usual grips.
Trekking bars - anodised black $35 (plus postage if required.)
